What’s happening? The World Cup
World Cup has started, and over 500 million people watched it LIVE. Yes, LIVE! That, my friends, shows how the internet has changed. If you think about 2006, the previous World Cup, few interesting things happened:
- Facebook was opened to everyone of ages 13 and older
- YouTube was just bought by Google
- Twitter was launched
- Second generation of iPad Nano was released
- Time magazine Person of the year: YOU
From the last World Cup up to now so many things have changed and social media has integrated to our lives in a certain way that you are connected to everything. You can follow the World Cup from anywhere.... from your mobile app, from your Twitter, Facebook, YouTube or even from a pub.
Yes, from a pub. Didn’t thing about that yet? We are so social on the web that we almost forgot the efforts we had to make to be able to follow the World Cup in its previous years.
I remember coming to work 2 hours earlier so I could leave to watch the match with my friends. I also remember that instead of installing a World Cup theme on my Firefox, I was painting my face.
I also remember that we were calling friends when the team scored a goal. Yes, international calls. Now you just need to tweet @yourfriend’sname and you’re done. Is that the same feeling as yelling over the phone the word GOAL?
And how about the tension before the match, the slaps on the bar’s table and the hugs when you score? Those things are irreplaceable. Yes you can tweet, you can “like”, you can watch streaming and you can post. Your secondlife is there, you share it. But please, don’t forget that the real social network should be your firstlife.
Look forward to hugging you when we first score.

IS Parade - Parada do Twitter no Japao
Fenomenal!

Vale o clique!
